Our Purpose

Organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational and scientific purposes, including for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations described under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or corresponding section of any future federal tax code.

Our Legacy...

The Mighty Northern Region is a region of rich history, legacy, and sisterhood.  We were the first region that was established in Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. in February 1943.  The region encompasses all chapters in the States of Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia.  Alpha is the first established chapter of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. (among the members' direct descendants of our founders, Dr. Violet T. Lewis & Elizabeth A. Garner) and from there the organization flourished chapter by chapter into seven regions.  Nelis J. Saunders was the first Northern Regional Director.  At one point the Northern Region has as many as 29 active chapters.  Currently we have 14 active chapters, MAL Columbus, OH, MAL Flint, MI, and for the first time in history (on 11/30/2022) we initated a MAL in West Virginia.
